♦ THE TOMB OF THE LORD of NAKIJIN CASTLE --- A Very Short & Sweet (10-15 Minutes) "INDY JONES" Trail for you and your kids that's NOWHERE NEAR NAKIJIN CASTLE !!! ? (PINS in Caption & Below)
Right up behind the kid's playground at the popular TOGUCHI BEACH in YOMITAN, there's an obscure little trail with no English markers that will take you along the face of the steep Hija River Cliffs, to a series of old tombs.
You will have to slip through a Rock Portal on the way and discover the "secret" tunnel exit (or entrance) at the back of the main tomb. You might (or might not) have to slip under a fallen tree or two, and if you're with your kids, they might make you reverse the trail and do it again... just for the "Indy Jones" fun of it! ?
So, the next time you're over at TOGUCHI BEACH, add this little adventure to the variety of other things to see and do there, and your energetic kids will thank you for it. You might even like it yourself!
♥ Climb the stairs next to the Playground, and at the back corner of this grassy ground, ENTER THE JUNGLE TRAIL PINNED BELOW!
Any "Do Not Enter" or "Keep Out" signs may be ignored, as they are old and temporary left-overs from a day when they did some plant spraying to kill destructive bugs.
WHO WAS THE LORD OF NAKIJIN ??? Basically, this is the Tomb of one of MANY "Lords" (Aji) of Nakijin Castle who, like many "Lords" appointed to oversee many regions of Okinawa, fell in and out of favor with those they cooperated with... or competed with. Some were successful and left their area in peace and prosperity. Others were involved in too much competitive intrigue between extended family members and ended up being overthrown or banished in favor of a more popular leader. This particular old Lord and former overseer of Nakijin Castle, his priestess, and other members of his extended family retinue were said to originally be from the Chatan and Sunabe area. The details of it all are beyond the purpose of this caption. Cheers!
