小さい / ちいさい / chiisai - small
That'd be an adjective, so you would lose (or go again). Only nouns are permitted in shiritori, unless ending in ん/-n, as you'd lose.

But for the sake of it, as it's a pretty important word to use, I'll give it to you and jump off with い/i:

いか - ika - squid 🦑

さしみ - sashimi - raw (mostly prepared) sliced fish (🚫🍣)

This is quite often interchangeable with sushi by most that don't know the difference. Sushi is thinly sliced raw fish or other ingredients placed atop rice while sashimi is just the raw fish, sometimes served with a garnish of radish, but can be enjoyed at home with just soy sauce and wasabi as well.
