Scenic Spot Cherry Blossoms (Sakura) On Mount Yaedake

Okinawa.Org Staff
When winter is about to roll around every year, and the sakura (cherry blossoms) are in bloom, the number one question people tend to ask is where a good spot to view them is and how long the season lasts.

The cherry blossom season in Okinawa lasts throughout the month of January. However, you can sometimes get a good glimpse of blossoms during mid-to-end December and throughout February as well.

This timelapse was recorded on the decent just before sundown on February 2, 2020. It shows the many trees along the unconventional way down, as well as all the people who gather to get a view as well as photographers of all levels getting their snapshots in.

There are so many opportunities to take great pictures or just cruise the roads lined with cherry blossoms on Mt. Yaedake in Okinawa, one of the most touristy-and-local spots to view them.

From this location, you'll be able to get the perfect spot just about anywhere to view the blossoms as well as take some great photos of the sakura and yourself, or just the sakura and themselves.

Be prepared for a traffic jam up though! The time to ascend will take about 30 minutes, while about 10-15 on the way down after everyone has left.
