I find it interesting that everyone has a preference or outlook on the abundance or lack of in the glass but no one ever stops to ask - what is in the glass?

I understand the premise behind this. However, it just seems to me like it's improper English to describe any object sustainable of carrying a payload of any kind as half empty, so I would go with half full.

What's the gas tank look like? It's half full. Though, I sometimes say I'm halfway out of gas too.
Is the shipping container packed yet? No; it's half full though.
