So you've brought in the new year with some sort of celebration, whether it be at the Mabuni Fire and Bell Festival, at another event, or maybe just enjoying it the typical way that you do.

However, after the celebrations, you can also bring in the new year with the first sunrise at Nakagusuku Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The event will begin before dawn on January 1st at 0600, so it is recommended to bring a flashlight for better visibility as there is slightly bad scaffolding in some areas, dress warmly, and check the weather conditions for the area before heading out.

The full sunrise is expected to be around 0715 on January 1st, but it should get brighter much sooner than that where you'll have stunning views of the ocean.

The Nakagusuku Castle sunrise event has free entry until 0830 when they begin regular admissions.

Drones and fire within and around the site are strictly prohibited.

Afterward, you might want to get a glimpse of the haunted hotel in Okinawa, or what might be left of it, before it's demolished.
