Okinawa news and related coverage of events on the island
ONNA – Beach season in Okinawa is officially upon us with the opening of ANA InterContinental Manza Beach Resort's public Manza Beach and accompanying beachside pool.

Swimming will be allowed today from 0900 AM but will be briefly put on hold at 1100 AM for the opening ceremony. After which, normal beach operating hours will commence.

For swimmer's safety, the resort has four lifeguards on staff with upwards of two manning the free swim area at any given time.

The forecasts for today look good with a 60% chance of rain in the AM and a 60% chance in the PM. However, the outdoor temperatures are expected to reach 26° Celsius (78.8° F) to compensate for the possible chance of showers.

Manza Beach offers plentiful water activities that the whole family can enjoy to include, but not limited to: Stand up paddle boarding, a tug dragon boat (banana boat), "rock star" water tubing, end even beach canoeing.

While some activities may come at an additional cost, the main attraction, or the obstacle course, swim area, and beachside pool will remain free.

An employee of the resort stated that a swimmer that has smaller or very few tattoos on the beach should be fine, but anything larger, the guest(s) may be asked to wear a rash guard or similar shirt and to cover up all visible tattoos while using any of the facilities.

Okuma, the next public beach on the main island of Okinawa, isn't expected to open until March 24th.

As I sit in the parking lot planning the rest of my day out, I am observing many locals and tourists starting to arrive here to begin their day in the water or on the sandy beach.
