On the morning of May 16, 2019, at 11 a.m., the Okinawa Meteorological Observatory made an announcement that it is believed that Okinawa has officially entered this year's rainy season.
This season comes 7 days later than normal but 16 days earlier than the previous year. However, it was delayed from the beginning of the rainy season in the Amami region of Kagoshima Prefecture, an island approximately 375 kilometers (233 miles) northeast of Okinawa, that began on May 14.
The region of Okinawa is expected to have more cloudy and rainy days in the weeks to come due to the formation of different weather systems at the Baiu front.
Rainy season in Okinawa is expected to end around June 23.
